A spectacular outdoor theater that you may recognize as the backdrop for a memorable U2 concert video. The one where Bono – with a full mullet – sings “Sunday Bloody Sunday”? Yeah, this is that theater. A wide array of concerts take place here, from indie bands to well, U2. There is something for any music lover. Your older kids will love and appreciate going to see a cool concert outside, but it might not be the place for younger kids. It does get loud and crowded. Use your best judgement and have fun!
For the nature lovers in your family, Trail Ridge would be a great weekend road trip. It’s typically open to vehicle traffic in the summer months. This steep winding drive provides you with some of Colorado’s most gorgeous landscapes. The high scenic views of Rocky Mountain National Park are well worth the trip.
Many Denverites are split on which amusement park is the best. Many are partial to Lakeside and it’s not hard to see why. With the price ($4 for gate admission) and the appeal of antique roller coasters. It is definitely an experience unlike any other amusement park in Denver.
As Denver’s most historic city block; this is the place where Denver was founded. Even without the history, Larimer Square is a thriving small business district. A haven for the art and architecture lover. There are lots of restaurants and curiosity shops that you and the family can spend hours exploring.
If you have a budding paleontologist this is a perfect Saturday adventure for your family. Learn all about the dinosaurs at this National Landmark. With tours and lots of skeletons, don’t be surprised if you hum the Jurassic Park theme song on the way home.
Explore this 16,000 sq ft shop. It is a nerd extravaganza. Anything fantasy, costumey, and oh so many games. The Wizard’s Chest is a child’s heaven. You will enjoy looking at the unique inventory and be charmed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Start a board game with one of your kids and you could find hours have gone by, just like magic.
Fifty Two 80’s
This awesome pop culture shop is a blast from the past. Fifty Two 80’s wares are memorabilia from the 1980’s Saturday morning cartoons. Smurfs, Rainbow Brite, and Yoda toys are all present and accounted for. Getting to share a part of your own childhood with your kids is fun for everyone.
Opened to the public in 1930 and still in operation today. The movie theater’s exterior architecture and interior decor is very unique. Mayan-inspired with an art-deco vibe compliments the old-timey feeling you get when walking through the doors. Your kids will love to experience a movie in this special theater, and you will love the fact that you are supporting one of Denver’s historic landmarks.
Hopefully that gives you and your family inspiration on fun things to do in Denver and places to go for your next adventure. There are many more places and things to do, but this is a good list to get you started.
